Sevilla
According to legend, it was powerful Hercules who founded the beautiful city of Seville. It reached its splendour under the Roman Empire, when it was called Hispalis and became the cradle of emperors such as Trajan and Adrian. And, of course, during the Muslim era, in which, among others, the magnificent minaret of the Giralda tower was built, today forming part of the huge cathedral. This eclectic character seeps through all Seville's pores and, if its architecture is appreciated, it is the people who are appreciated still more, their particular way of enjoying life and their party atmosphere. The Sevillians are especially proud of the April Fair, where the men parade on their bedecked horses and the women dress up in colourful costumes. In its gastronomy, 'tapas' play an important role together with the wine from Jerez or Manzanilla. However, the gastronomy embraces the influence of the many peoples who have brought their culinary skills from across the Mediterranean.
